I'm currently hosting a PZ server for my friends. We previously have played on a vanilla server, but recently started using a modded server. I'm unsure if the mods are the root cause, but occasionally, one of my friends will be booted out of the server. Upon returning they will have an inventory and stats that are from hours earlier.

Hum I had 4 people join, one joined from another invite. SO it doesn't have to be you that invites IIRC but you may have to green light 'allow' them if you are the host. At least that was the case for me
